Blog 5- PPT on Types of Triangles

Description about the material

This self-created power point contains the content of sorting and drawing triangles for class four students. It presents the definition of triangle types of triangles, ways to sort triangles, examples of different triangles, and the activity for the children. The engaging PowerPoint presentation contains lots of interesting and colourful shapes and diagrams to grab attentions of children.  Different animations and transitions are used at different point in the presentation to make it more engaging and effective.

Description on how I created the material

Firstly in a blank MS PowerPoint slide, I drew a triangle using ‘triangle’ shape from the ‘insert shape’ option. I then labelled three sides as 1, 2, and 3 to teach the children about polygons because triangle is one of the polygons. Triangles are polygons which have three edges, faces and vertices. After that, in another blank slide, I drew three triangles using ‘triangle’ shape from the ‘insert shape’. For first triangle, I made all three sides equal to teach the concept of equilateral triangle. For second triangle, I made all two sides equal to teach the concept of isosceles triangle. For third triangle, I made all three sides unequal to teach the concept of scalene triangle.

To teach about the two ways of sorting triangles, firstly I drew a triangle to teach the concept of sorting triangles by comparing the length of side. And I inserted picture of a protractor to teach the concept of sorting triangles by measuring the angels in each triangles. I inserted picture of 'Zebra Cross' sign board as example of equilateral triangle, a piece of pizza as isosceles triangle, and cloth hanger as example of scalene triangle. I animated the pictures and texts using different animation modes. I kept the appearance of animation on click because I wanted the pictures and texts appear when I click the mouse.

How and where am I going to use the material?

I will use the material during the lesson introduction and lesson development. During the lesson introduction, I will teach the concept of polygons and triangle as one of the polygons. During lesson development, I will let the students to read the power point slides and will teach the concepts of Equilateral, Isosceles, and Scalene triangles. 

 

 

Activity

During the activity time, I will show the activity slide and children will read the activity instruction and will do the activity.  The activity / task is to match the given triangles with their corresponding names. Students will then be asked to draw and label different parts of triangles

Description of the material

The material that I prepared is video tutorial. A video tutorial is a student handout which is written to accompany a specific video. I have made video tutorial for class III Mathematics on renaming numbers. I have used base ten blocks to teach on renaming numbers. This TLM would be helpful for students to understand the concept of renaming numbers easily. It is a portable material which students can use at any time without having to attend classes at specific time.

Creation of the teaching material

The material I created is video tutorial using Camtasia studio 8. Firstly I looked into the class III Mathematics textbook for the contents that need to be covered. After that, I try to find all the relevant information that need to be conveyed to my students from the internet. After getting all the information from the internet, I planned the overview of the presentation. Then, I opened a Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation to create an interesting  and engaging presentation.I made Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on renaming numbers. Then I animated all the required materials in the Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation.

Teaching Mathematics concepts using Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation is somewhat challenging as lots of animations like emphasis and shapes are required to be inserted in order to make the concept clear to the students. All the concepts, information and examples, I inserted shapes, emphasis and differently timed animations in order to make the presentation more engaging and easily understandable. After creating the presentation, I recorded it using Camtasia Studio 8. After that I have edited until it looks worth for my students.

How, when and where to use the material

My video tutorial can be used to teach the concept of renaming number. Always teaching through face to face sometimes is monotonous and boring. So My video tutorial will used to teach lesson without teacher need to go in front of the class. My video tutorial can be used while teaching in the class. It can be use in lesson Introduction, Development and Closure.

How to go about activity

I have made two questions to solve using base ten blocks to rename numbers. To do so, students will watch my video tutorial and understand the concept. At the end of the video tutorial I have set two questions to follow up their understanding of the lessons. Moreover students can watch again when ever they need to watch and even pause it.

Blog 3- Teaching through Google Classroom

Introduction 

Google classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools that aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. In the Google classroom students can be invited to join a class through a private code. I thought that this Google Classroom can help me to enhance my students learning as well as my teaching. It will help me to do away with the everyday monotonous teaching.

v  How to  create Google Classroom? 

Step 01 

I already had a Gmail account so  I directly signed into my Gmail account. 

After that I clicked right corner (goggle apps) in my Gmail account. 

Next I scrolled down until I came across an application as 'Classroom' 

After I found the classroom, I clicked on it.

 

Step 02 

Then I clicked on the plus sign at the right corner; 

After that I clicked on ‘create class’,

Later I typed class, section and subject. 

I created the classroom for class V ‘A’ for the Mathematics subject.

                                   

 

Step 03 

To add the students and co-tutor, I clicked on the ‘people’ option. 

I invited both students and co-tutor through their email. 

I added three students and a co-tutor.

 

Step 04 

I have changed theme, so under stream, I clicked on ‘upload photo to change theme'.

 

       

Step 05 

To make the students aware of what they are going to learn in the class, I made use of the ‘Announcement Dialog Box’; 

Therefore, in my first announcement I wrote a welcome note as well as an information making them briefly aware of the subject. Even, I have posted the promotional video.

Step 06 

To upload reading materials, I have chosen ‘Materials’ 

Then, I wrote title, instruction or description for particular reading materials. 

Finally, I clicked to ‘add’ option to attach file.

Given below are examples of reading materials uploaded.

To create quiz assignment, I clicked on Quiz Assignment option. 

I wrote the title, instruction or description. 

Finally, I clicked to ‘create’ option to compose questions.

(I have framed 5 questions (1 Multiple Choice Question, 1 short answer type question, 1 fill in the blank, 1 match the following and 1 paragraph writing).

Step 08 

To create Assignment, I went to classwork.

Then I clicked on Create option,

I clicked on Assignment option.

After that I wrote title, instruction. 

I clicked to ‘create’ option to compose questions.

I chose to 'Docs' option to write questions.

After that I have added reading materials to complete assignment.

 

To complete Assignment, I have uploaded reading materials like pdf format, video, web link and rubrics. 

Ø  How I am going to use this Learning Activity (Quiz)?

I am going to use this learning activity (Quiz) on topic ‘Transformation’ after teaching the concept of this topic. As a revision or the summary of this topic, I will assign this quiz questions to students through Google Classroom. This can be also used as references in the later days by students. Moreover, I will assess their work to keep record.

As a teacher, if I need to take leave in future then I can make use of the Google classroom. I can cover up the leftover lesson by the Google classroom. Most of the times we are always worried about the coverage of syllabus but if we make use of that Google classroom I think it will help us to cover it on time. Instead of wasting time on explaining the entire task in the class I can just assigned it through Google classroom. So it will help us to safe our time as well as students. If I create a Google classroom, I need not have to be in an actual classroom or need not have to conduct face to face session. So from that point of view I think it will help us to save our time.

Blog 2- Simulation on Weather

Introduction

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a blanket term encompassing all the technologies and services involved in computing, data management, telecommunications provision, and the internet. These technologies all deal with the transmission and reception of information of some kind. ICT permeates all aspects of life, providing newer, better, and quicker ways for people to interact, network, seek help, gain access to information, and learn.

Creation of the Material

The simulation is created by using Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation and I have chosen English subject purposefully for class II students and designed materials integrating the idea of ICT on the topic ‘Weather’.  My objective here is to let students to capture the concept of weather and to get idea of different types of weather. I have designed the materials which is based on content where I have used Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation as a means to teach the students about concept 'weather'. Firstly I have chosen suitable materials which is more relevant to my topic mainly to have effective teaching and learning processes. Next I started preparing and using different ideas for designing with the PowerPoint resources such as animation, and different effects.  And I have collected enough images relating to the topic. Moreover I have downloaded different sound to drag the concentration of students and to give clear ideas about the particular topic. After that I have inserted the text, pictures, and sound. I have adjusted the time for and also time for the start as ‘with previous’ using animation pane which under the animation toolbar. Next I did a short voice narration using the ‘Record slide show’ option under the slideshow toolbar. 

How to use the Materials

Teaching and learning materials is one of the main key elements which create conductive environments for disseminating the information. Thus, the simulation that I created will be using while teaching the students about the ‘weather’, as a replacement for making them read the text. This simulation can be used in two distinct categories that is during the lesson introduction and lesson development.

After introducing the concept of ‘weather’ let them watch the simulation and let them listen audio carefully. Then let them draw the picture of each weather type (representation) that describes each weather. Furthermore to understand better about four types of weather (sunny day, windy day, cloudy day and rainy day) I have inserted activities; here activity can be solved by individual students. Now, let them complete the activities after watching the simulation on weather.

Blog 1-Teaching about Four Seasons through ICT

 Introduction

ICT integration is understood as the usage of technology seamlessly for educational processes like transacting curricular content and students working on technology to do authentic tasks. Nowadays ICT facilitate not only the delivery of lessons but also the learning process itself. This includes computer based technologies, digital imaging, the internet, file servers, data storage devices, network infrastructure, desktops, laptops and broadcasting technologies namely radio and television, and telephone which are used as instructional tools at schools. Educational systems are adopting new technologies to integrate ICT in the teaching and learning process, to prepare students with the knowledge and skills they need in their subject matter. In this way the teaching profession is evolving from teacher-centered to student-centered learning environments.

Creation of the materials

Teaching materials is a generic term used to describe the resources that teachers use to deliver instruction. Teaching material can support students learning and increase student success. Teaching learning materials are significantly increase students achievement by supporting students learning.

I have used PowerPoint presentation as main source to develop the key ideas about the four seasons by using the effects of PowerPoint presentation and the resources available in the internet such as graphics which can give the clear concepts of the seasons. Moreover through this graphics, students can relate the ideas of seasons in reality by learning the various ideas from the power point presentations and could experience the elements of seasons in reality. Furthermore, students caters the learning needs when there is integration of ICT tools which can adapt the skills of 21^st century and to fulfill the demands of students in very vulnerable ways.

In order to promote the effective teaching and learning processes of the students, the materials should design in such a way that attracts more and eagerness in learning. Because of this, I have intentionally used and downloaded the images which is more attractive and bright in colors where they can get the clear ideas about the seasons even if they lack the features of different seasons.

Instruction for content-based materials

I have prepared to teach class two students in English on the topic seasons. I choose the PowerPoint presentation as a tools to teach about seasons. The very reason to teach season through PowerPoint is that student will be able to understand and get the concept of seasons clearly. In addition to it, students can be able to differentiate the four seasons appropriately in their own ways. The main reasons of teaching students about the seasons are to fulfill the following objectives that are to define season in his/her own words; write some features about four seasons, tell the importance of season in his/her daily life.

To teach about the four seasons, teaching learning materials can be used in three dimensions consisting of lesson introduction, lesson developments and closures. To introduce the topic about the seasons I will let students to go through the graphics and let them to predict some features of seasons based on their background information and introduce the topics by explaining about seasons in details. Moreover, to give facts about the seasons and to check the understanding of every individuals, I have prepared the activities which can enhance in depth of learning about seasons through hands on experience and sharing of ideas with peers. Students can retain information for longer durations if we provide opportunities to share what they have understood from the content. Therefore, I will conclude my topics by letting them to summarize the topic based on their understanding and will give necessary feedbacks to have lifelong learning.

self Introduction

My name is Ngawang Rabten. I am currently studying at Paro College of Education in final year. I am from Trashigang, Udzorong, Bepam. I was born on 25th may, 1998. I am from poor family background. We are total of ten siblings. I am second youngest from the family. My parents are farmer and they suffer a lot to send us to school. I have my daughter who is two years, three months old.

About my education history, I started my primary classes in Bepam Community Primary School. I studied class seven and eight at Nganglam Lower Secondary School and class nine and ten at Nganglam Higher Secondary school. I completed my higher studies from Jigme Sherubling Central School. I took science stream. I am hardworking person with kind heart.

My hobby is to watch movies and play traditional games like khuru and archery. Besides playing traditional game I like playing football, volleyball and basketball. During my free time I usually read books and play with my daughter. I like to be a teacher because I like being with children and I love to teach.
